Cafe
Costa Coffee (website)
Opening in Sep 2007, with the town already served by Starbucks and other cafes this might seem an unnecessary addition - especially replacing the already missed Horizons bookshop. However - i do have to say the size of the place makes it a more relaxing spot than Starbucks, especially the upstairs section - and the listed, beamed building really adds to the pleasant atmosphere of the place. Thay also bring drinks and food to your table, rather than the "shouting it out" approach at Starbucks, and have a loyalty card scheme too.

As well as being a confectioners (see separate entry), Burgers has a pretty large 'tea shop' section serving drinks, cakes, small snacks etc.

Starbucks
Very popular, and sometimes too popular spot for a quick coffee - at peak periods it is clogged by numerous oversized pushchairs. I'm a big fan of the drinks and food though - and it is a convenient place to meet and catch up with friends.

Caffe Fego
We rave over this establishment in our 'Breakfasts' section, but throughout the day it is well worth a visit for a great selection of meals and snacks of all sorts, and (of particular interest to me) the portions are usually generous. An inventive selection of drinks (e.g.Nutella cappuccino!), and as we state in the breakfast section - best coffee in Marlow without a doubt. In fact, just writing this makes me want to visit, so i'll finish here and pop down....

No image availablePips
A sandwich bar for most of the time, Pips also serves cooked breakfasts in the mornings.. which are great value for money. Note they are not open on Sunday mornings - a crying shame!

High quality food and good service. This restaurant has some large tables, so can cope well with bigger groups.

Food is of similar high standard to the Jasmine, the only difference is the smaller size of the restaurant.

Fish and Chips
No image availablePenguin Fish Bar and Cafe
Has a small seating area, so that makes it a sort of restaurant. Nice clean premises, and most importantly excellent chips.  Also open late enough for those post-pub chip cravings (as long as you leave the pub before 11pm!)

Hotel
No image availableThe Compleat Angler (website)
If you can afford it, the food and service in the main restaurant here cannot be faulted. It is immaculately prepared, served in style and tastes superb. Also great riverside location. However in my 2 most recent visits the service on the terrace for pre-dinner drinks was terribly slow. Maybe I was unlucky, and they were busy summer evenings - but at these prices there should be no excuses.

Everything said about the Compleat Angler food and restaurant service also applies here, and the setting of the Oak Room restaurant is very grand indeed. In fact, the service is unsurpassed, with waiting staff seemingly on permanent standby to attend your needs. The building itself is impressive, and so are the gardens leading to views across the Thames - providing an ideal spot for aperitifs. No problems with delivery of drinks, either!

Owned by the same people as Tiger Gardens. The seating area is much smaller, but is also well geared up for takeaways. Food is of a very high standard.

Large take-away menu with all your Indian favourites, with one big bonus - THEY WILL DELIVER TO YOUR HOUSE!! The food itself is of very high quality, and if you want delivery it is usually very prompt and still hot enough to eat without reheating. My personal favourites include the Chicken Biryani, or if you cant be bothered picking out individual bits go for the Meat Thali which even includes rice, a naan and popadom.

Part of a local chain of pizza/pasta restaurants doubling up as a cafe during the day. There is a varied menu, and makes a change from the larger pizza chain restaurants in town.

Excellent Italian food, served by very friendly staff. Every time I have been here there has been a great atmosphere in the place.

Stylish interior, with a small garden also. Offers a reasonable range of pizza and pasta, in generous portions. They have a bizarre booking policy, though, whereby you can't book a table in advance (unless for large groups). I dont know why this is... in any case I'd just choose someshere I CAN book!

Mexican
No image availablePachanga (website)
Marlow's best Mexican restaurant. Well... the only one - but luckily it's pretty decent. Typical menu: * Starter: Nachos Pachanga £5.65 (but watch out - it's pretty big!) * Mains: Fajitas (chicken, beef/lamb, prawn or vegetarian)

A large and pretty special restaurant. Housed in a historic inn dating back centuries, the food is mostly French in influence. Food and wine are fantastic, as is the service. A great place to go for a special occasion. One nice touch was the 'graphic' display of specials shown as we sipped aperitifs in the bar - we were shown plates of raw and fresh ingredients and had explained the various ways we could have them cooked!

No image availableVanilla Pod (website)
Quite simply our favourite restaurant in Marlow. The food is best described as British with French influences. Owner and head chef Michael Macdonald has had a considerable track record in restaurants of note.. and his skills are best demonstrated in the 7 course 'Gourmand Menu'... superb. Typical courses include: -Seared Scallops with Tahitian Vanilla poached Pear Puree -Roast Rump of Lamb, Flagolet Puree and Aged Balsamic Jus -Praline Creme Brulee with Baileys Ice Cream

One of my favourite restaurants, and a place I like to take visitors to the town. Not sure why, but I do. Maybe it's because it stands out from the crowd in terms of variety and quality of menu... and whilst not the cheapest place to eat, feels good enough value. Stylish setting with a small bar at the front for aperetifs.

Chez Gearard (website)
Really good selecton of main courses- 8 of us visited with meals ranging from various steaks, salmon, tajines and were enjoyed by all. Starters were equally impressive. Desserts were good, but the selction is perhaps a tad familiar - with the exception of the chhese options, which might be worth a try. Overall a very enjoyable experience, god selection of food, well cooked and presented, and ok value. (31st Aug 2007)

Restauarant part of the "Out and Out" chain. Has a massive menu, which you can view on their website. Can cope with large groups - and is thus popular with family get-togethers, birthdays etc. All in all, pretty good value. Also see entry in pub guide

McDonalds have tried unsuccessfully to get a restaurant in Marlow, but even if they did, I'd prefer the Wimpy since you get served at the table and can eat off proper plates. And it's freshly cooked to order. And they do puddings.
